Work
- Since Fall 2007 I am have been a research assistant working with Christian Grothoff
- In the fall quarter of 2007 (at DU) I taught MATC-1101
- Previously I was a TA for various courses in Computer Science at the University of Denver
Research
In general, my research interests are mostly related to computer security. Currently that has led to a focus in secure anonymous P2P networks and privacy implications of the internet
- (August 2009) Presenting "A Practical Congestion Attack on Tor Using Long Paths" at USENIX Security '09 in Montreal Canada. Co-authored with Christian Grothoff and Roger Dingledine. USENIX Link pdf
- (June 2009) Presented Master's Thesis (an extended version of Routing in the Dark: Pitch Black)
- (Winter 2008 - Present) Worked with a team at the University of Denver creating the DUP System, which allows complex pipelines of streams to be used for distributed processing. Complex pipes (with forks and merges) have been available on mainframes but not in a distributed fashion. The DUP System brings these concepts to all POSIX systems.
- (December, 2007) Research detailing a major flaw in the Freenet 0.7 routing algorithm (co-authored with Christian Grothoff and Chris GauthierDickey) was published at ACSAC and is titled Routing in the Dark: Pitch Black
- Presented Routing in the Dark: Pitch Black at Defcon 15 in August, 2007
- (Summer 2007) Worked with my advisor (Christian Grothoff) and the Tor development team implementing a partial fix for a security issue in the Tor protocol
- (Summer 2007) Worked on de-anonymizing clients using a popular German P2P client called RShare is being printed in a German magazine called c't
- (Winter 2007) With Nils Durner and Christian Grothoff, wrote a survey article on anonymity software published in iX
- (Spring, Summer 2008) Building off of previous attacks on Tor, demonstrated method to partially deanonymize Tor users. Presented same at Defcon 16 in August, 2008
